We will all be coming to Fall Crawl from different directions and it is impossible to map every route to the Cove, as there are many ways to get to the main turn off from US-50. The interactive maps below are meant to help with your trip planning.

The majority of attendees will likely be traveling I-81 and turning on to US-50W right around Winchester. I encourage you to preview your route online prior to getting on the road. Getting off US-50 in Gore, and the first few turns can be very tricky and you MUST PAY ATTENTION, or you will wind up traveling a few dead end roads (particularly frustrating for those of us towing our rigs). The road from US-50 to the campground turn off (Rte 704/ Back Creek Rd), is fairly narrow and very windy. It can be difficult to pinpoint the turn for the access road to the Cove campground, especially in the dark. For reference, there is also a Boy Scout Camp (Camp Rock Enon) at the same turn off. You will actually drive through the Boy Scout camp on the way to the Cove. The access road is predominantly gravel and dirt, and can be rutted and rough and steep in spots; I’m talking to you, trailer queens.

There is a Super Walmart and fast food restaurants on US-50, JUST West of the intersection of US-50 and VA-37 for your last minute provisions.
Lastly, there are several gas stations along US-50W (map below) and the Gore Grocery, at the turn off from Gore rd onto Rte-718, looks to have ethanol free gas.

I-81 from Points North (VA Visitor’s center)

  1. If traveling South on I-81, take Exit 317 onto VA-37 S
  2. Follow VA-37 S for approx. 4 miles, to the exit for US-50 W
  3. Once on US-50 W, follow the directions for US-50 from points East (US-50 West)

I-81 from points South (Harrisonburg, I-66)

  1. If traveling North on I-81, take Exit 310 onto VA-37 N
  2. Follow VA-37 N for approx. 5 miles, to the exit for US-50 W
  3. Once on US-50 W, follow the directions for US-50 from points East (US-50 West)

US-50 from points East (US-50 West)

  1. Getting off US-50 W in Gore, and the first few turns can be very tricky and you MUST PAY ATTENTION, or you will wind up traveling a few dead end roads (particularly frustrating for those of us towing our rigs).
  2. Turn LEFT off US-50 W onto Gore Rd (don’t worry if you miss it the 1st time, there’s another chance to catch it another 2/3 of a mile further down US-50). Follow Gore Rd for .5 miles, JUST PAST THE GORE GROCERY.
  3. Turn LEFT onto Rte 718 (Back Creek Rd), which is the 1st LEFT AFTER you pass THE GORE GROCERY.
  4. Rte 718 (Back Creek Rd) turns into Rte 704 (still named Back Creek Rd).
  5. Follow Rte 704 for approximately 4.4 miles to Rte 683 (Enon Springs Rd). Rte 704 is narrow and very windy. It can be difficult to pinpoint the turn for the access road to the Cove campground, especially in the dark.
  6. Turn Left onto Rte 683, Rock Enon Springs Rd and follow it approximately 1.5 miles, through the Boy Scout Camp, to the Cove campground entrance building. The access road is predominantly gravel and dirt, and can be rutted and rough and steep in spots.

US-50 from points West (US-50 East)

  1. Getting off US-50 in Gore, and the first few turns can be very tricky and you MUST PAY ATTENTION, or you will wind up traveling a few dead end roads (particularly frustrating for those of us towing our rigs).
  2. Turn RIGHT off US-50 onto Gore Rd (don’t worry if you miss it the 1st time, there’s another chance to catch it another 2/3 of a mile further along US-50). Follow Gore Rd for .2 miles. If you pass the Gore Grocery, you’ve gone too far.
  3. Turn RIGHT onto Rte 718 (Back Creek Rd), which is the 1st road on the Right.
  4. Rte 718 (Back Creek Rd) turns into Rte 704 (still named Back Creek Rd).
  5. Follow Rte 704 for approximately 4.4 miles to Rte 683 (Enon Springs Rd). Rte 704 is narrow and very windy. It can be difficult to pinpoint the turn for the access road to the Cove campground, especially in the dark.

Closest Gas Stations (final fill-up)

We all want to fill up as close to the campground as possible on the way in. There are four gas stations along US-50 West a well as the Gore Market. Apparently, the Gore Grocery has been remodeled AND has ethanol free gas, though I can’t confirm the last part

Cove Campground Check-in

Now that you’ve navigated to the Campground entrance, you need to check-in with the campground and pay your camping and wheeling fees. The next few graphics are to help you navigate that and to get you to Camp VI.

REGISTRATION: Stay to the right, stop in the orange box and pay for camping and wheeling at the campground registration building.
CAMP VI: Once checked-in with the campground, follow the road to Camp VI. There is plenty of space for all attendees to make camp. Once settled in, come find the event registration tent; It’ll be the tan one with the Capital Land Cruiser Club logo.
